SaskPower is beginning plans for their next phase of power generation.

The crown corporation has began a competitve procurement process to buy up to 200 megawatts of wind power from independent power producers.

They have also lowered the number of potential sites for a new natural gas plant to four: West Sherwood north of Regina, Rowatt, Belle Plaine and the Moose Jaw Industrial  Park.

SaskPower hopes to have the wind power project in service in late 2020, and are aiming to have a new natural gas plant built as early as 2022.

The company has set a goal to produce up to 50% of power from renewable sources by 2030.
