The CFO of Husky Energy shared cautious early views on the potential impact of a Donald Trump presidency during a gathering of energy analysts in London, UK.

“The reality is it is a fairly unknown world we are moving into,” said Jon McKenzie at the TD Securities London Energy Conference last week.

“We do look forward to what we think will be a more pro-business environment in the US. The appointments of Rick Perry [energy secretary] and Rex Tillerson [secretary of state] we see as real positives for business.”

McKenzie views positively any strengthening in the US dollar from the perspective of Canada’s E&P business. “I think one of the pieces we will be watching with interest is how some of the protectionist policies play out. At some point, economic reality butts up against political ideology.”
